7th Grade Ceramics

7th grade visual art students worked with clay for five weeks. Students learned how to wedge clay, how to create a pinch pot pet, an expressive slab bowl and a creative coil project. All pieces were then fired and painted.

Please enjoy the magnificent showcase of pieces exhibited in the Middle School last week:

7th Grade Technology

In this quarter we have been researching and learning about the advantages and disadvantages of different social networks. With the research made in teams assigned, each student created a site. In teams they will create a radio station that will be done with GarageBand. So get ready to listen to an interesting program
!

We will work on typing as another learning theme, so students can use less time when typing a project for any class. Remember to ask your child to cover their hands with a handkerchief and to focus on the accuracy and the speed will come along. The sites they will use to practice are on my site.

Good Luck!

7th Grade Visual Arts

We have started a new semester and 7th grade visual arts students have been learning drawing techniques. In this particular project students learned how all objects are made up of shapes and how easy it is to make these shapes 3D by shading.
We set up six different still life compositions in class and each table drew what they saw. They placed each object in its correct plane and drew exactly what they saw. Once the drawing was finished they shaded it either using warm or cool colors. The end results are amazing. Check them out !

Sketch Up in Visual Arts

In 8th grade Visual Arts, students discovered a fun way to integrate technology into the arts. The unit studied was the Renaissance and we focused on the discovery of one point perspective. Once students understood the importance of this discovery and how to achieve one point perspective they had to apply their knowledge in two ways. The first way was by drawing their own bedroom in one point perspective. They had to use the basic pencil, paper and ruler technique. The second way was learning how to use a computer program called Sketch Up, which allowed the student to draw their room again, not only in one point perspective but three dimensionally as well!
You can see some of the hand drawings as well as the digital drawings above.
Well done Visual Arts students!

Preparing for the Art Fair

6th and 7th graders brainstormed on what Mexico means to each one of them. These feelings were then translated into a work of art, using the distinct Mexican, artes populares, techniques. We then created an enormous map of Mexico and this became the background for all of these incredible art works. Students were also filmed expressing their feelings and explaining their art work. Both the finished map and the film will be in display in the Art Fair on November 6th.
